Participants, along with the team of Terra Design Lab, will build a straw bale wall using the GREB technique.

 

The course will be divided between classroom theory and practical construction and will include:

•  overview of different straw bale construction techniques

• design issues for straw bale construction

• foundation & footing considerations

• door & window openings

• straw bale specific detailing

• wet room design and considerations

• termite protection

• fire safety

• allowance for electrical & plumbing services

• installation of bottom plate system

• stacking bales

• making half and custom sized bales

• rendering using the GREB technique
